The National Insurance and Guarantee Corporation (NIG) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Direct Line Group and was incorporated initially on 8th October 1894, to provide personal and commercial insurance throughout the UK. NIG was part of the Churchill group of companies acquired by The Royal Bank of Scotland Group on 1st September 2003. NIG sells its products exclusively through independent brokers operating across the UK. Following a strategic review, NIG withdrew from the personal lines market in August 2010, focusing on delivering commercial insurance through exclusive distribution via the broker.
